The UNESCO Design Cities that have played symmetric charm

Under its wider project of UNESCO Creative Cities Network, the organisation is also recognising cities for their continued effort in designing art. Called the UNESCO's Design Cities, the cities need to have an established design industry; a cultural landscape maintained by design and the built environment, design schools, and design research centers apart from various other criteria. There are 40 cities under this category that are known for their uniqueness. Here are a few cities that you must know about and plan to visit soon.

Asahikawa

The capital of the subprefecture, and the second-largest city in Hokkaido, Asahikawa has been a core city since 2000. The city is famous for the Asahiyama Zoo and Asahikawa ramen. Besides the food and the zoo, the city also joined the UNESCO's Network of Creative Cities as a Design City in 2019.

Graz

The capital city of Styria and second-largest city in Austria, Graz is popular for college and university city - four colleges and four universities. It is also known for its historic center, Altstadt, which is one of the best-preserved city centers in the whole of Central Europe. In 2003 Graz was designated the Cultural Capital of Europe and became a City of Culinary Delights in 2008. The same year, 2003, Graz held the title of "European Capital of Culture" and was one of the UNESCO "Cities of Design" in 2011.

One can visit the Neue Galerie of visual arts from the 19th and 20th centuries, Kunsthaus an exhibition hall of contemporary art, Forum Stadtpark a museum of contemporary art, and Künstlerhaus an exhibition hall of contemporary visual arts.

Brasília

The federal capital of Brazil, the city is located at the top of the Brazilian highlands. The city is famous for its beautiful landscape and architecture. Brasília was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 owing to its modernist architecture and uniquely artistic urban planning. And the city was named City of Design in 2017.
